Building Board of Appeals

Created by Ordinance No. 2350 on August 20, 1984, this board consists of five (5) regular member and two (2) alternate members. All appointed members must be active in their respective fields and doing business in the City of Helena. This board shall determine the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction and provide reasonable interpretations of the following codes: International Residential Code, International Building Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Existing Building Code, National Electrical Code, International Energy Conservation Code, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code and the International Fire Code. In addition, this Board of Appeals shall possess the duties of an appeals board for other codes as adopted in City Code Title 3. The Board consists of 1 Architect or Engineer; 1 Contractor; 1 Consumer/Citizen; 1 Director of Building & Safety; 1 Helena Fire Department Chief; 1 Alternate Architect or Engineer; and 1 Alternate Contractor.
