Veterans Memorial in Helena, Montana.

HELENA, Mont. – The Veterans Memorial in Helena’s Memorial Park received some much-needed maintenance this summer thanks to the efforts of the Lewis and Clark County Veterans Memorial Foundation. The organization spent over $35,000 on new paint and structural work that wrapped up in mid-August.

The Memorial, which is located near the center of the park, was first dedicated on August 15, 1949. It currently honors 105 Lewis and Clark County residents that were killed in military action. The honorees include 75 soldiers that died in World War II, 12 in the Korean War, 13 in the Vietnam War, and 5 in the Global War on Terrorism.

In 2005, the Foundation was created to help ensure the Memorial doesn’t fall into disrepair. Team members of the Foundation will also lead the effort to update the Memorial in the future.

Following the most recent repairs, the Foundation is seeking donations to replenish its funds for future maintenance work. The goal is to sustain a principal fund of $50,000. A GoFundMe page has been created to support this effort. To contribute to the Foundation online, please visit www.gofundme.com/f/lewis-clark-veterans-memorial.
